Keto Diet For Vegetarians

Keto-Diet-For-Vegetarians
The ketogenic diet is a fatty diet that limits daily carbohydrate intake to 10 to 15 grams and daily protein intake to 1 gram per kilogram of body weight. Meat and fish are among the most important sources of fat. This makes it difficult for vegetarians to follow a strict keto diet. However, vegetable oils, dairy products, eggs and soy products are good sources of fat for vegetarians following a keto diet.

The ketogenic diet
The ketogenic diet RM Wilders, MD, of Mayo Clinic invented in the 1920s. The diet was mainly used to treat attacks in pediatric patients. Conventional anti-epilepsy drugs when available are less publicly received in the diet. However, it is still used for the treatment of epileptic seizures in patients who do not respond well to standard anti-epilepsy treatments.

How it works
The main sources of glucose or blood sugar, carbohydrates and proteins. By limiting these sources, the keto diet forces the body to use fat instead of glucose as its main source of energy. Unlike most other cells in the body, do not use the brain to use fat as a fuel. When glucose is limited, it is switched from the use of glucose to the use of ketone bodies, a by-product of the fat metabolism. Keton bodies are more difficult to convert into energy, this switch in metabolism becomes neurons more cell engines, or mitochondria. This increase in the number of mitochondria has a stabilizing effect on neurons. This, in turn, prevents neurons from entering an over-excitatory manner, a condition that leads to attacks.

Soy products
When you follow the keto diet, most of the calories come from fat and protein. Because vegetarians do not eat meat or fish, vegetarians who follow a ketogenic diet must get their fat and protein from other sources. Soy products, such as tofu, soy milk, soya cheese and soybeans, are a good source of protein and sometimes fat. Tofu producers also occasionally make meat tasting tofu dishes, such as Tofurky, invader of Turkey.

Dairy, eggs and vegetable oil
Unlike the vegans who do not eat animal products, vegetarians can get fat and protein from dairy products and eggs. To ensure a sufficiently high fat content, choose full fat dairy products such as full fat, milk and yogurt cheese. Watch out for added sugars, an important source of glucose. Eggs contain low carbohydrates. To increase the fat content, only use the egg yolk, which has a much higher fat content than the protein. Vegetable oils are also excellent sources of fat.
